The transfer window officially opens today and as always with this time of yeah the silly season is well and truly underway. So far from Arsenal it’s been all outgoings. Luiz, Odegaard and Ceballos have all moved on or back and realistically there’s only one of those that fans will be sad to see leave. But what about transfers in?
Twitter went into meltdown the other day when it emerged that we’d been “beaten” to the signature of Emi Buendia by Aston Villa. How the might have fallen etc. But lets look at this realistically. Before this window, aside from fanatics I’d bet there were few Arsenal fans who had actually heard of it him. And even fewer who had a desire to sign him. But because he was linked and now gone, he seems to have become the only player in that position on the planet. The same will happen with Bissouma if we don’t sign him. Who even knew what team he played for before the other day? I thought so.
The reality is that transfers are long winded, complicated and there are far more deals that don’t get done than do. The transfer window is long as although I expect there to be some movement over the next couple of days, with the Euros around the corner the majority of deals will be done after. The club are definitely active but those desperately clinging onto anything and everything that comes out will be disappointed.
European Relief
With that being said, it’s all quiet on the Arsenal front and focus is slowly switching to the Euros. If you country are in it best of luck and enjoy it. I think we all need a break from what has been a painful and frustrating Premier League season. I’ll be back when something material happens. Til then.
